History:

Avila College was established in 1965 by the parishes of Mount Waverley, Glen Waverley, Syndal, Mulgrave and Jordanville. The Presentation Sisters were invited to administer a Catholic College committed to the education of young women.

From humble beginnings in portable classrooms in the grounds of St Leonard’s School in Glen Waverley, the College has grown to become a leading provider of Catholic education in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The modern campus, conveniently located in Mount Waverley, has more than 1000 students.

Our motto, ‘Ecclesiae Filia’, which is Latin for daughter of the Church, honours the patroness of the College, St Teresa of Avila, whose spirituality and dynamic leadership in the Church provides inspiration for our students.

Description:

The College philosophy is based on the belief that students learn when they are valued and respected. To that end, Avila’s policies are based on Christian values which uphold the dignity of each individual.

The vision of Avila is to encourage each student to grow towards a womanhood of faith, hope and love. The mission of Avila is to be a Christian community that actively encourages an environment of faith, trust and concern for others.

Features:

Avila College is a regional Catholic secondary school dedicated to the education of young women in a caring and stimulating Christian environment. Our students, tomorrow’s adults and decision-makers, face enormous and exciting challenges in the 21st century and, through our balanced approach to education, we strive to help them in their journey.

Avila is recognised for its innovative and comprehensive curriculum. In addition to the extensive range of subjects in the Key Learning Areas, we offer stimulating programs in the visual and performing arts, and Vocational and Educational Training (VET) subjects such as Horticulture and Hospitality.

An exciting selection of extra-curricular activities and community-based programs are offered to further enrich the overall development of students.

The College is privileged to have a dedicated staff of professionals who are committed to the holistic education of young women. Our programs are supported by excellent physical resources and facilities and our students benefit from the cohesiveness of a single, streamlined campus surrounded by picturesque native gardens.

Our greatest ambassadors are the students themselves. Come and let them take you on a guided tour of their campus at one of our Open Days held in February and October each year.
