History:

This school is an amalgamated school. The parish of Croydon founded St Peter Julian’s School during the growth period of the outer east in the late 1960s. The Dutch order of the Society of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Sisters were the foundation staff of the school. Mooroolbark eventually became a separate parish and in 1979 established Eymard Hill School. In 1990, after problems with the Eymard site, it was decided the two schools would amalgamate. In 1991, St Peter Julian Eymard School was formed on the original site, which had been extended in size by the purchase of property that was to be used as a freeway. The new school has grown in enrolments as new areas have opened up in the region and as the reputation of the school is held in high esteem by the local community.

Description:

The school is set at the foot of the Dandenongs. Facilities include modern buildings, good equipment and large playground areas. The school is organised in Levels – Prep, Junior, Middle and Senior, and the curriculum approach is integrated, based on the Victorian Curriculum. Classrooms are spacious, carpeted and have ample display areas. All school facilities are well maintained and resourced. The library is computerised, contains over 12,000 items for loan and is open daily for student and staff use. Current enrolment is approximately 540, with students divided into workable class groups across 22 classrooms.

Features:

Our school is in the Parish of Mooroolbark. Our mission is educating its children in faith and life. Education in faith for students, parents and staff is our priority. Both the school and the parish have dedicated Religious Education Leaders who enable this to happen. The community is actively involved in all areas of Catholic education and school life. The school welcomes all students in the Mooroolbark parish community and offers equitable access to its facilities. The Student Diversity/Student Wellbeing program ably supports this philosophy. The school offers a first-class program in all areas of the curriculum, facilitated by the school’s dedicated staff. Great emphasis is placed on literacy and numeracy proficiency and there are dedicated leaders employed in these areas. Information and communication technology is integrated into the children’s daily learning, through the use of the school’s extensive computer network, with access to multiple computers in each classroom. Sport and Physical Education is a high priority at St Peter Julian Eymard’s, as is the LOTE program. Italian is taught through the school from F–6. A specialist music program operates in a well-equipped performing arts area and many extended out-of-hours programs are also offered to the students.
