History:

St Augustine’s School grew out of the natural development of St Francis Xavier’s Parish in a south easterly direction along the Baxter-Pearcedale growth corridor.

The school is one of three primary schools belonging to the super Parish of St Francis Xavier, Frankston and St John’s Frankston East. Our school is situated four kilometres out of Frankston’s CBD and is set on over 3 hectares of natural bushland; much of which is protected by both an Aboriginal overlay and a vegetation protection overlay, issued by Frankston Council.

We continue to enjoy a close relationship with St Francis Xavier’s school, our partner Parish Primary School. It is at St Francis Xavier Church that we gather in faith to celebrate significant occasions such as the Sacraments of Confirmation, Reconciliation and Eucharist.

The school was named in honour of the Augustinian Nuns, who so faithfully served the Parish of St Francis Xavier for eight years.

Building construction commenced in February 1980 and was completed in February 1981. The first classes commenced on the school site on 5th February, 1981. Further extensions of more classrooms, a library and an office, commenced in November 1981 and were completed in September 1983. In 2004, a new resource centre and administration area was built. In 2009 the multi-purpose hall was built. In 2017, to cater for growing enrolments, seven new learning spaces were constructed, including a Kids Kitchen and a roof was erected over the netball/basketball court.

The school buildings and grounds are constantly being developed and upgraded to ensure safe, stimulating, imaginative and fun play for the students.

Our school emblem depicts our Christianity, learning, the people who make up our community and our proximity to the sea.

Description:

The school currently comprises 315 students and 42 staff. The structure of the school consists of 2 classes at Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2; and 4 mixed-age classes at Grade 3&4 and Grade 5&6, for a total of 14 classes in all. The average class size is 23 students.

The school infrastructure comprises the main brick building containing 6 dual class learning areas, administration area, library, staffroom, parent room and student amenities; the Dantum Building and Arts Wing containing 2 dual class learning areas, music, art and Italian room, and garden kitchen; and a school hall.

St Augustine’s operates flexible learning as part of our delivery of contemporary pedagogies for developing 21st Century learners. Flexible learning relates to the complete physical, social and pedagogical context in which learning occurs. Our innovative environment is underpinned by teaching methods and spaces that are engaging and motivational.
