History:
Established by the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia, St Mary’s provided an oral education for hearing-impaired students at Delgany, Portsea, from 1947. In 1985 St Mary’s moved to Wantirna South, providing pre-school, primary and secondary education for hearing-impaired students. Currently St Mary's has four campuses where we are in partnership with four Catholic schools.
Description:
St Mary’s is a unique school, specialising in individualised integration programs for deaf and hard of hearing students from Prep to Year 12. This occurs at six campuses:
PRIMARY: Located alongside Holy Trinity Primary School, Wantirna South.
P–12: Located within Marymede Catholic College, South Morang
SECONDARY: Located within St John’s Regional College, Dandenong.
SECONDARY: Located within Aquinas College, Ringwood
SECONDARY: Located within Salesian College, Sunbury
SECONDARY: Located within Thomas Carr College, Tarneit
Features:
St Mary’s provides a Catholic education for students with a significant hearing loss at an integrated campus where access to a regular school curriculum is supplemented by individualised speech, listening and language programs, with an emphasis on auditory learning. Additional services include; Cochlear Implant Clinicians and Australian Hearing Service Technicians and Audiologists with access to Educational Psychologists and Speech Pathologists.
