History:
The original building of St Mark's School, Fawkner, was built in 1934, and the school opened in October that year, however the first lessons didn't begin until February 1935. In 2014 the school will celebrate its 80th anniversary. St Mark's was originally staffed by the Sisters of Mercy and had a peak enrolment of over 800 students. In 1935 the school looked out onto farmland, whereas it is now surrounded by housing. In 2014 the school has an enrolment of 183 students.
Description:
St Mark's is a beautiful school set about 30 minutes drive from the centre of Melbourne. It has nine large classrooms. The school comprises a series of buildings built between 1934 and the 1960s. It has a newly refurbished administration area, a large library, a large staff planning area, a canteen and a sports hall that was built in 2010. A large play equipment area is covered by a shade cloth and the students have access to a grass area and sandpit.
