Rerum Novarum Awards 2022
18 February 2022
In the midst of a global pandemic, as we adapt to the ‘new normal’, Pope Francis calls on us to respond to the Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor. How will you answer the call?
That is the challenge being presented to groups of Year 9–12 students as part of the 2022 Rerum Novarum Awards. Established in 2020, the awards ask students to use the ‘See, Judge, Act’ method to apply the principles of Catholic social teaching to a social justice issue in their community.
The release of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference Social Justice Statement 2021–22, Cry of the Earth, Cry of the Poor, and the development of the Laudato Si’ Action Goals provide an exciting framework for the 2022 Rerum Novarum Awards. How can you make a change in your community that answers the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor? The two cries are fundamentally interconnected and our responses must also be.
Grants for $1000 are available, with additional awards (up to $3000) also offered. For more information about the 2022 Rerum Novarum Awards, visit the .
