History:

To think it all began with a garden tea party! Established in 1921, St Joan of Arc School opened its doors to 28 pupils under the guidance of the Presentation Sisters. Now, with a lay principal and staff, the school has grown to an enrolment of over 240 students, with the most recent extensions and upgrading of classrooms taking place in 1995.

Description:

St Joan of Arc School is a Catholic parish school situated in the heart of Brighton. It caters for the needs of primary school students in a co-educational setting. The aim of our school is to nurture a welcoming Catholic community where gospel values are evident and where the dignity of each person is recognised. We also aim to foster the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical development of each student in our care. We seek to develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that will enable children to contribute to and participate fully in society.

The staff at St Joan of Arc are dedicated, enthusiastic professionals who are committed to providing each child with the goal of achieving personal excellence. They work hard in developing a vibrant curriculum in all Key Learning Areas.

At St Joan of Arc we welcome and encourage the positive involvement of parents in all aspects of their child’s learning. In recognising that the family is the most significant influence upon an individual, we see learning as an ongoing partnership between home and school.

Features:

At St Joan of Arc School we have a strong focus on literacy (the CLaSS Program) and numeracy. We have support programs for students with special needs and those who display particular aptitude in given subjects. We have specialist teachers for Music, Physical Education, Library and LOTE (Japanese) programs. We have a Skipping Team competing at state level, a School Band and a School Choir. At St Joan of Arc there is also a Special Events program that features events such as St Joan of Arc Feast Day; a Mothers' Day Paraliturgy and a Fathers' Day Breakfast. The newly refurbished classrooms are airconditioned, the grounds are beautifully landscaped (with adequate shade provision) and there is attractive play equipment. After-school and holiday programs are available, as are after-school tennis and music programs. Active involvement from the parent body is most welcomed and valued.
