15 December 2020

The Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) has welcomed the announcement by the Victorian Government to bring forward a further round of funding for school building projects under its Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.

‘This decision will assist the CECV to deliver more school building projects in a faster timeline across the state in 2021’, CECV Executive Director Jim Miles said.

‘It delivers a win-win for new and upgraded facilities for our school communities sooner, while providing stimulus and jobs for the Victorian building industry as it continues to recover from the impact of bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic.’

Mr Miles said more than 20% of all Victorian students are educated in 499 Catholic schools across the state, making the expansion and upgrading of facilities essential to delivering a high-quality, faith-based education option for families, and meeting increasing demand for school enrolments.

‘The Catholic education community contributes the majority of the funds to build and maintain Catholic schools, so I also thank our families for their investment in education infrastructure in Victoria’, he said.

The fast-tracked funding is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment of $402 million over the four years 2019–20 to 2022–23 through the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund to help expand capacity of and upgrade existing schools, and build new Catholic and independent schools across the state.
