Students in Years 3–10 will return to onsite learning at Catholic schools across Victoria this Tuesday 9 June, following the return of Prep, Years 1, 2, 11 and 12, and specialist schools a fortnight ago.
‘The return of Years 3–10 will no doubt mirror the excitement of two weeks ago as students reunite with their friends, peers and teachers, and schools return to full attendance as vibrant and flourishing Catholic learning communities’, Executive Director, Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV), Jim Miles said.
‘I know schools have continued to do an enormous amount of work over these past two weeks to maintain online learning, while also preparing for this second phase of the students’ return.
‘Once again, I thank families for their support of flexible and remote learning over the past several weeks.’
Mr Miles said Catholic schools had reported a relatively smooth first phase of return to classroom learning over the past two weeks.
‘This is a testament to the professionalism and dedication of our principals, teachers and staff, and the strength of the partnerships between our schools and parents or carers.’
Mr Miles said Catholic schools will continue to operate within the recommended safety guidelines, including around hygiene practices and restricted access to school sites.
‘We cannot afford to be complacent. It is vital we all play our part in minimising the risks of a COVID-19 outbreak causing further disruption to learning as schools return to full attendance.
‘I again remind any parents or carers who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of COVID-19 to discuss their situation with their school.’
Mr Miles said the Catholic sector welcomed the ongoing collaborative, cross-sectoral approach to the pandemic, which has helped provide clarity and consistency for schools, teachers and parents.
‘We continue to actively monitor developments and work closely with the Victorian Departments of Education and Training (DET) and Health and Human Services (DHHS) to ensure school practices reflect current advice.’
More than 20% of all Victorian students attend nearly 500 Catholic schools across the dioceses of Melbourne, Ballarat, Sale and Sandhurst.
