The community at St Ambrose’s School, Woodend, has celebrated the opening of new and upgraded facilities.

Melbourne ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Catholic Schools (ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ) Executive Director Dr Edward Simons, together with local member for Macedon and Minister for Health, the Hon Mary-Anne Thomas, officially opened the new facilities.

‘It has been such a pleasure to be here at St Ambrose and I wish all of the students nothing but the very best for your future’, said Mary-Anne. ‘I know that you’ll get the highest quality education that you can at St Ambrose, and now you get to enjoy that in some wonderful new teaching and learning facilities.’

The work included new learning areas, an upgraded art room, as well as administrative and planning spaces. The new meeting rooms have been named to honour the contribution to the early years of the school by the Carmelite nuns and the Sisters of Mercy.

‘So much work has been done in and behind the scenes to create such a great result’, said Principal Bronwyn Phillips. ‘We knew there would be short-term pain for long-term gain and our students were amazing throughout the process. There were times when we shared spaces and had a reduced area to play, as well as putting up with lots of noise and dust, but we’re now experiencing the joy of the long-term gain.’

Following prayers, blessings and circus performances by the senior students, the to officially open the facilities. The $4.1-million project was made possible with a grant of $3,278,000 from the Victorian Government.
