Aquinas College, Ringwood, hosted its annual Long Walk: a special event for schools as part of National Reconciliation Week.

Based on Michael Long’s 650 km walk from Melbourne all the way to Parliament House in Canberra, the college’s event started with energising speeches and a music performance by the school band of ‘From little things big things grow’, and finished with a walk around the school grounds.

Guests included Leanne Brooke, Jenaya Serra and Jack Peris from ; Alwyn and Jayden Davey, Tex Wanganeen and Levi Power from the ; and Lisa Moloney from the , with special guest Nova Peris.

‘The Long Walk is about uniting Australians; it is about bringing people together’, said Leanne Brooke, Executive General Manager of The Long Walk Foundation, ‘but it is also about leadership and inspiring young people like yourself to take action and to strive for positive change’.

Participating schools included Emmaus College, Vermont South; Holy Spirit School, Ringwood North; Mount Lilydale Mercy College, Lilydale; Our Lady of Lourdes School, Bayswater; Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, Ringwood; St James’ School, Vermont; St John’s School, Mitcham; St Luke’s School, Wantirna; and St Richard’s Primary School, Kilsyth.

‘Now More Than Ever’ is the 2024 theme for National Reconciliation Week, which runs until Monday 3 June.
