Andi MoleLast year, we celebrated Andi Mole’s success when she came second nationally at School Sport Australia’s Cross-Country Championships, achieving her goal to reach ‘at least top five at national level’. Andi told us about her hard work, commitment and determination in athletics, and her goal for 2024: ‘To come first, of course’.

This year, the Year 6 student from St Francis de Sales Catholic Primary School, Lynbrook, set herself an impressive training regime of running 3–5 km four times a week. The competition in 2024’s Cross-Country Championships was close until the last few hundred metres, when Andi managed a final burst of energy to accomplish her goal to win the national title.

Amazingly, Andi has achieved impressive results in a variety of sports, showing resilience and perseverance in chasing her dreams. After missing out on qualifying for the state teams in Australian football and basketball last year, Andi trained extra hard and tried again.

This year, Andi made both the Team Vic Australian Football Girls and Team Vic Basketball Girls teams for her age group. With Andi as vice captain, her basketball team came second at the national competition, while her football team came first.

My goal is to continue cross-country, basketball and footy, and take on any opportunities that come my way. My ultimate goal is to represent Australia at the Olympics in the 5-km race and the 1500-m track event. I am not sure which sport I will continue all the way through, but I would like to either play for WNBL or AFLW. I will train even harder to try and achieve my goals.
