A program pairing new music teachers with experienced mentors is making a difference for teachers and their students in four of Melbourne’s Catholic schools.

The Melbourne ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Catholic Schools (ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ)-funded National Music Teacher Mentoring Program (NMTMP) offers new or inexperienced primary music educators the opportunity to work one-on-one with an experienced, practising music mentor−teacher.

Emma Cooper from St Andrew’s School, Clayton South, is one of the teachers to experience the mentoring program. ‘So much of the program was tailored to not just teaching music, but also teaching graduate teachers how to teach’, she said. Working with mentor Susie Davies-Splitter, Emma was coached in how to incorporate songs, dances and instrument activities into the school’s music program.
