James Merlino at St Richard's Primary School12 May 2022

Victorian Deputy Premier the Hon James Merlino MP visited St Richard’s Primary School, Kilsyth, to officially launch the school’s building refurbishment program.

With shovels at the ready, Mr Merlino, along with the school’s principal and student leaders, symbolically turned the soil to commence a project that will improve all parts of the school. ‘With the junior building spaces, we’re making sure that they’re engaging and give our youngest students the best opportunity and best start at school’, said Principal Marcus Gill. ‘STEM is an important curriculum area in the school and prioritising the new STEM hub will maximise learning opportunities for our students.’

The upgrades to the school are budgeted to cost almost $2.3 million, including funding of $1.65 million from the Victorian Government, and contributions from the school community and Melbourne ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ Catholic Schools (ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ). The refurbishment will also contribute to further enhancing the Catholic identity of the school. ‘We don’t have a church on site so having a new exterior will help us develop the Catholic identity of our school’, said Mr Gill.
