Student success beyond school
21 October 2021
St Fidelis’ School, Moreland, is proud of its former students and the list of high achievers continues to grow.
Former student Liz Watson was recently named the national captain of the Australian netball team, the Origin Australian Diamonds. She was also recently featured in The Australian as one of 10 inspiring women in sport. Liz made her debut with the Diamonds in 2016 and was the recipient of the prestigious Liz Ellis Diamond award in 2018. She has played for the Melbourne Vixens since 2014, represented Australia at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the 2019 Netball World Cup, and captained the Australian team against New Zealand in the Constellation Cup.
St Fidelis’ School principal Manuela Watson has twice as many reasons to be proud of Liz’s success. ‘It’s a proud moment for me, not only as principal of our amazing school, but also as the mother of the captain of the Origin Australian Diamonds. I couldn’t be prouder of Liz and everything we do for the young people here.’
Liz is one of many high-profile former students of St Fidelis’ School. Other former students include Nine News Melbourne reporter Mark Santomartino, soccer player Andrew Nabbout and former Carlton AFL footballer (and Liz’s brother) Matthew Watson.
