Zoë Barry, a music teacher at Sacred Heart School, Fitzroy, has been announced the winner of the 2021 Telstra ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association) Music Teacher Award.

The Telstra ARIA Music Teacher Award is now in its fifth year, with a record number of applications received from around the country. Zoë becomes the first Victorian teacher to be presented with the award.

Zoë leads the school’s Harmony in Strings program to empower her students and build confidence in music. The growth in music at the school has seen the student instrumentalists performing at conferences and festivals, as well as with professional musicians.

The Song Room is extremely proud to partner with ARIA for this award, which celebrates the exceptional influence Australia’s music teachers have on our children, and showcases the incredible dedication and hard work that goes into teaching young people how to play, love and appreciate music. The award shines a light on the well-documented benefits of music education.
