Sacred Music Choral Festival
24 May 2019
By Tate Papworth
Earlier this month, schools from the western region came together to participate in the Sacred Music Choral Festival, held at Caroline Chisholm Catholic College, Braybrook.
Students from Thomas Carr College, Tarneit, Catholic Regional College Caroline Springs, Caroline Springs, Marian College, Sunshine West, and Mount St Joseph Girls’ College, Altona, joined voices for this spectacular event that sold more than 200 tickets.
‘We’ll be performing three group numbers [every school together] and then each school will sing a couple of songs individually’, said Caroline Chisholm Catholic College’s director of music, Matthew Lorentzen, prior to the event. ‘It’s all religious music, but there’s a variety of different music, from classical all the way up to more modern hillside kind of thing.’
Mr Lorentzen said preparations had been ongoing for six months. ‘We started rehearsals back in October with all the schools together for the first rehearsal.’
The Sacred Music Choral Festival was first held at Thomas Carr College in 2018 and was designed to bring schools together as a Catholic community and to celebrate their Catholic identity.
