The STEAM room and garden at St Dominic’s School, Broadmeadows.29 May 2019

The STEAM room and garden at , Broadmeadows, will support teachers and students to be lifelong learners, and to embrace all learning opportunities available.

Although only at the early stages of their STEAM journey, the school is beginning to see evidence of changes in both student and teacher learnings and practices. Through explicit and differentiated teaching and learning opportunities, students are excited about their learning and taking greater risks. Staff are leading change in the school, within their own classes and teams, with greater engagement of students through creative thinking, problem-solving and collaboration.

STEAM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics. Through STEAM, students develop key skills including:

  • problem-solving
  • creativity
  • critical analysis
  • teamwork
  • independent thinking
  • initiative
  • communication
  • digital literacy.

Students and teachers are becoming the creative drivers, learners and leaders of the 21st century. The St Dominic’s learning community looks forward to continuing to engage in the future with creative and innovative opportunities. They believe in the importance of integrating STEAM activities across all learning areas to provide opportunities to develop skills needed to constantly adapt in a dynamic and evolving world.
