Images of students and teachers in costume for Book WeekSchools across the ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ of Melbourne have spent the week celebrating books and reading for Book Week.

 

Along with Book Week parades and students dressed as their favourite fictional characters, many schools have had the opportunity to experience visits from authors and illustrators to inspire young readers and would-be authors.

 

Year 10 students at , Sunshine West, had the pleasure of hosting authors Fiona Wood and Cath Crowley. Fiona and Cath, together with Simmone Howell, penned Take Three Girls which won the Children’s Book Council Book of the Year (older readers) this year.

 

Other award winners from the Children’s Book Council of Australia included:

  • Younger readers: How to Bee (Bren MacDibble)
  • Picture books: Rodney Loses It! (Michael Gerard Bauer and Chrissie Krebs)
  • Early childhood: A Walk in the Bush (Gwyn Perkins)
  • Information books: Do not lick this book (Idan Ben-Barak and Julian Frost).
