Lest we forget
24 April 2018
Thirty-nine Catholic primary schools in Melbourne are planting Gallipoli Oaks this week as a symbolic link between Gallipoli, the people of Turkey and the primary school children of Victoria.
Since the Gallipoli centenary in 2015, 600 seedlings have been planted in primary schools. Acorns were sent home to Australia from the front, and the Gallipoli Oaks are descended from those original trees. The 2018 Gallipoli Oaks coincide with the centenary of the end of the First World War, and the following Catholic primary schools will be planting their seedlings this year.
