Green Rangers save the planet

Anthony Carbines MP, Parliamentary Secretary for Energy, Environment and Climate Change, recently visited , Ivanhoe, to present the school environment leaders with their badges. The leaders, known as the Green Rangers, are 16 students from Prep to Year 6 who are responsible for managing the school's waste, protecting and enhancing the school environment and acting as environmental stewards. The students already have lots of ideas about how to make a difference in their local environment to create a more sustainable ‘future earth’.
‘I’ve been watching the War on Waste documentary and the amount of plastic has shocked me! I think that the school should only bring nude food because that would reduce the amount of plastic found in the school yards by a lot’ – Joseph, Year 3.
‘If I become a Green Ranger I will make our school a more sustainable place for students’ - Estelle, Year 5.
‘I think I would make a good ranger because I want to increase the amount of platypuses in the Darebin Parklands. I also want to decrease the amount of rubbish in the school’ - Xander, Year 3.
‘I am very interested in helping the environment and taking care of our school’ – Ivy, Year 3.
Mary Immaculate Parish Primary School Ivanhoe are celebrating National Science Week with rotating workshops on Monday, a visit to CERES on Wednesday and a whole-school excursion to the ReThink Centre on Friday.
National Science Week 2017 continues until Sunday 20 August.
