Galilee Centre Blessed and Opened at Emmaus College
3 August 2017
On 18 July (Vermont South and Burwood) was delighted to have Monsignor Greg Bennet, Vicar General of the Melbourne ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ, Bless and Open a state-of-the-art, new building, the Galilee Centre. With a cutting edge façade and striking, contemporary interior design, the building incorporates a 250 seat Lecture Theatre, Language Centre, VCAL, Careers, Psychologists, Education Support and has extensive study/ passive recreation spaces for students.
It has been named the Galilee Centre as Jesus in Galilee guided, counselled, and healed those who would seek help, he taught the crowds new perspectives and tutored those close to him. In Galilee he opened for many new ways of thinking, learning and being. This new building is where students and staff too have the opportunity for thinking, learning and becoming.
Principal Tony Hirst stated in his address that when the school opened in 1980, the facilities at Emmaus could best be described as modest, but over the past 37 years, enormous progress has been made. The school has an excellent reputation in the wider community as evidenced by demand for enrolment and being at full capacity for many years. Mr Hirst also stated that the opening of this wonderful new facility further strengthens the great Catholic education we experience at Emmaus College, as we strive each day to live the school motto, To Know Christ.
Mr Hirst also acknowledged the support of the Emmaus College Association of Canonical Administrators, the Emmaus College Board, the Archbishops Planning, Building and Finance Committee, the Catholic Development Fund, Catholic Education Melbourne and the City of Whitehorse for approval and assistance in ensuring the successful completion of the project.
